Not Going As Planned

So of course, as my title suggests, things got a little chaotic here and my blog is the first thing to suffer. J comes home from a TDY on Tuesday and hopefully my blog will get back on track then. I did take H to go see Santa Clause this weekend. She absolutely loved it!

Whats Up Wednesday

I am going to be starting a daily devotional called Joy! to your World! A countdown to Christmas. It is in my Bible app. 25 days worth! I will also be doing a summery every Friday in which I am going to call Faithful Friday. I would love for you to follow along. This is easily my favorite time of the year and I am just so excited to take it to the next level by immersing my self into the reason for the season :)

I am currently working on homemade felt doll diapers for H's dolls. I am using this "method" from Kojotutorial.

I am also making baby blankets from old material that I was going to make her baby blankets from (that never got done). These are both going to be Christmas gifts. I am really excited to get started on some hand towels that we are going to do for H's Grandma and Nana. This is what we will be doing once we gather the supplies.

Personal growth...

I have been super motivated on getting in shape. I am currently working on my kettlebell skills. The workouts are really fun and take a lot of concentration to get the form down. If you are looking for something new I totally recommend that you look into kettlebell. You can find tons of workouts on Pinterest and I highly recommend watching youtube videos on the form of the different exercises or if you can afford it and have the time hire a personal trainer to help.

The blog...

Being 100% honest my blog is still in its baby stages and I am still trying to find my niche. Coming up on my blog you can expect new posts every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday. I cannot guarantee that it will stay this way as I am still trying to find my groove. But I have a few themes that I am going to be working on :) I will have Monday Morning Motivation, Talk About It Tuesday (where I link up with Tricia and Melissa), and Faithful Friday.

Elf On The Shelf Ideas

Elf on the shelf gets me real excited because I believe H will really get into it this year. Last year she didn't really pay it much attention. This year she is able to understand more and I plan on using it to it's full potential. I will be sharing this seasons Elf shenanigans here. Here are some of my ideas, gathered from other, more wise moms (thanks!).

Our elf for sure needs surgery, tutorial here.

I mentioned above, using it to its fullest potential... I think I am going to change this up though and use it as a daily tool that starts over every day and once she gets to naughty elf will tell Santa.
This is the only link I could find.

Picklehead Soup is a genius and has an entire page on elf on the shelf ideas. Thank you, Amy!

Some of my favorites.

I found these awesome ideas here. Who doesn't have a million Pez dispensers?

Today I am linking up with Tricia and Melissa for Talk About It Tuesday.

Five Ways To Stay Motivated In Your Fitness

For most of us it is hard to get motivated and stay motivated to workout. There are some tactics I used to keep myself motivated and I am going to share them with you.

1. Write down the reasons you want and need to exercise.

2. Keep an exercise diary. Not only can you keep track of your weight and measurements, but you can keep track of how much you are lifting or how many miles you walked or ran each day. Seeing how well you are progressing will help keep you motivated.

3. Change up your routine every once in a while. Keeping your workout fresh will make it more fun. You will also find different types of exercise that you had no idea you would enjoy.

4. Surround yourself with like-minded people. A great way to do that is social media. My favorite for fitness people is Instagram. It is so easy to search handbags and find people who are into certain types of exercise. Some of my favorite:

5. I use Pinterest for all types of motivation. Into quotes? There are tons. It's also my favorite way to find new workouts.

Our Thanksgiving

Since we are going home for Christmas we decided to stay here for Thanksgiving. We were actually invited to a co-worker of mine's house for dinner. She has a niece that was born just a few weeks after H, and they had so much fun playing together. We had such a great time. We also decorated for Christmas. Last weekend we were at Walmart and found this little Christmas Doxin dog. H is obsessed with these little dogs right now. Her babysitters daughter has one. H loved setting it up in the front yard. We did not have an extension cord long enough so we have rearrange it once we go to the store.

I absolutely love these Willow Tree figures. My mother in law has the entire nativity set. I mentioned one year that I really loved it so she started buying pieces for me for my birthday and Christmas. This is what I have so far. There is another lamb that H broke the leg off of last year so I left it in the box until I can glue it back. I will probably just leave it put up for this year so that H doesn't break it again. She showed a ton of interest in the set and her daddy tried to explain what the figures represents.

I didn't really take any pictures of the dinner spread yesterday but here are some of my left overs from today's lunch :)

I do not have a picture of the apple pie that I made for desert yesterday but I really need to give it some credit. It was SOOOOO good. I mean really really good. I had never made an apple pie before yesterday's host asked for us to bring one. I tried one last weekend and it was decent but not spectacular. I decided to try a different recipe yesterday. I am so glad I did. I found the recipe on Pinterest and you can find it here. I was really intimidated to make a pie from scratch at first but it really was not that hard and I don't know if I can go back to eating a frozen apple pies again.

H's elf came last night. She wanted to touch her but it didn't turn into a fight like I was afraid it might. I read the book to her and then played this youtube video.

This morning our elf was sitting in the tree with her book underneath the tree. She named her elf Kai or Ky or Ki..... not sure how you would spell it ha.

I started a page for pictures of our elf's mischief this season and you can find that here.

I hope everyone had an amazing Thanksgiving holiday's and got fantastic black Friday deals!

My 5 Top Essential Oils

Today I am linking up with Tricia and Melissa to talk about something that has become part of my everyday life.

I have been using essential oils for a little over two years. I only use Young Living oils . I have tried many of their oils and have loved them all but there are a few that I find myself using in my everyday life. Most oils are very versatile and can be used many different ways but I thought I would share my favorites and how I use them.

1. Melaleuca Alternifolia AKA Tea Tree Oil - This oil is antiviral, antifungal, antibacterial. It's common uses are coughs, acne, athletes foot, cold sores, candida infections. What makes it numero uno on my list is how great it treats my cold sores. I typically get 2-3 cold sores a year. If you are also a sufferer, you know how horrible these can get. Most people say to dilute so if you are new to this oil and especially since you will be putting it on your mouth dilute until you know how you will react. I personally, do not dilute. I apply full strength to my cold sore 3-5 times a day. If I happen to catch the cold sore while it is still in its hard lump under the skin stage I usually never even pops up. If I do not catch it early, the pain/size/time frame of the cold sore is dramatically reduced. Before I started treating my cold sores with tea tree oil they would ALWAYS get massive, I am talking about half my dang lip, crack and bleed, and last around 10 days. Now, even if I do not catch it in time to prevent one, they almost never bleed and only last around 4 days! That is EPIC y'all! I cannot rave enough about what this oil has done for me.

2. Lavender - This oil is probably the most versatile oil and is a great starter oil. It's most common uses are for burns, minor scrapes/cuts, relaxation, allergies, itching, and to make all the things smell nice. My personal favorite uses are for itching and for a dog freshener spray. I make an itch cream with lavender, peppermint, and coconut oil. To be honest, I don't measure (I cook this way too, which is probably why I have never been mistaken for an amazing cook), I just put a couple spoon fulls of coconut oil in a small container along with 5-10 drops of each the oils. This cream works amazingly well on bug bites and to use after I get my allergy shots :) For the dog spray, I just fill a spray bottle up with about 2/3 water to 1/3 white vinegar and add around 15 drops of lavender. Spray the dog (avoiding face) and once the vinegar smell has dried out you are left with one fresh pup.

3. Peppermint - This oil is commonly used for headaches, bug bites, and digestive issues. My personal favorite is my itch cream, mentioned when I was talking about lavender. I have also used it to lessen the discomfort during a bad stomach virus by rubbing it into our bellies.

4. Breathe Again roll on - This is an oil blend made of Eucalyptus oils, laurus nobilis, peppermint, copaiba, myrtle, rose hip, blue cypress, and coconut oil in a bottle with a roller top. I have an almost 3 year old that has been in daycare since she was 6 months old. Hello colds. We have had our share. This has really been a life (and sleep) saver. I keep it by the bed during cold season. It is within reach if one of us starts getting stuffy or coughing. Now I just roll it on H's feet, chest, and back. When she was younger I would just roll it on my chest because she has always slept very close to me.

5. Thieves - This is a blend made up of lemon, cinnamon, cloves, and rosemary. If you know anything about essential oil, you have probably heard about Thieves. The most common use is immune support. Because of its antimicrobial properties, Young Living also makes a Thieves cleaner, hand wash, sanitizing gel, toothpaste, maybe even more things I cannot think of at the time being. I made my own roll on by adding several drops along with some olive oil to a bottle and H will even roll it on her own feet at night to fight off viruses. When I have a cold I like to add it to hot tea along with lemon essential oil and honey. It is very soothing on your throat. Do this a few times a day and you will feel better in no time.

What are some oils you use everyday?

Providence Canyon

Providence Canyon is also known as Georgia's "Little Grand Canyon". It is located in Lumpkin, Georgia, It's gullies were cause by poor farming practices in the 1800's. It only cost $5 to park but there was not enough parking and we had to park along the road. There are three miles of trails to hike along, and this was one of the best hikes we have been on since being in Georgia. The trail at the bottom of the canyon has a thin layer of water. H LOVED to play in it. I was glad that we had taken extra clothes to change her into when we got back to the car.
